Earlier today, Anime NYC announced that anime icon Yoshiyuki Tomino will attend this year’s convention as a guest. According to the announcement, Tomino will particpate in “panels, signings, and special events,” with more details to be announced at a later date.
Yoshiyuki Tomino has been active in the anime industry since 1963, when he began at Osamu Tezuka’s Mushi Productions as a storyboard artist and screenwriter. His first work was to write the screenplay and produce the storyboards for the original Astro Boy anime.
Tomino would later move to Sunrise, where he’d go on to pioneer the “Real Robot” genre with 1979’s Mobile Suit Gundam. The series has since gone on to become a legendary property, spawning nearly one hundred anime projects, and numerous toy lines, including the iconic “Gunpla” model brand. The most recent project, Mobile Suit Gundam Narrative, hit Japanese theaters in November 2018.
Outside of Gundam, Tomino has helmed numerous prominent projects, including Space Runaway Ideon, Xabungle, and Aura Battler Dunbine.
Anime NYC will be held from November 15 – 17 at New York’s Javits Center.
