This brilliant fairy tale is getting an all-new lease on life.
Earlier today, Viz Media announced that they acquired the rights to Sorata Akizuki’s Snow White with the Red Hair manga. The series will start shipping to retailers in Spring 2019.
The ongoing series launched in Hakusensha’s LaLa DX magazine, before moving to LaLa. Nineteen volumes have been published to date, with the latest hitting Japanese retailers on June 5.
The title receive an anime adaptation from studio Bones in 2015, which ran for 24 episodes, plus an OVA. Masahiro Ando (Hanasaku Iroha – Blossoms for Tomorrow, Sword of the Stranger) directed the project, which featured character designs by Kumiko Takahashi (Ouran High School Host Club, Witch Hunter Robin). Deko Akao (Arakawa Under the Bridge, Flying Witch) was in charge of series composition.
Funimation holds the rights to the anime, which they describe as:
Just as everything seemed to be falling into place, Shirayuki’s happily ever after is put on hold. After word of a mysterious boy searching for a girl with apple-red hair reaches the castle, Shirayuki is swept into a harrowing journey that will put her face to face with her past as she tries to determine what her future holds.
