It’s a wacky world with Ed and Al!
Earlier today, Viz Media announced that they acquired the rights to Fullmetal Alchemist: The Complete Four-Panel Comics. The title will ship to retailers in Spring 2019.
Fullmetal Alchemist: The Complete Four-Panel Comics is a compilation of four-panel gag strips, which appeared in various Fullmetal Alchemist manga and anime releases.
Hiromu Arakawa’s Fullmetal Alchemist manga launched in the pages of Square Enix’s Monthly Shōnen Gangan magazine in 2001. The series ran through 2010, spanning 27 compiled volumes. Yen Press holds the digital rights to the title, which they describe as:
Alchemy: the mystical power to alter the natural world; something between magic, art, and science. When two brothers, Edward and Alphonse Elric, dabbled in this power to grant their dearest wish, one of them lost an arm and a leg…and the other became nothing but a soul locked into a body of living steel. Now Edward is a agent of the government, a slave of the military-alchemical complex, using his unique powers to obey orders…even to kill. Except his powers aren’t unique. The world has been ravaged by the abuse of alchemy. And in the pursuit of the ultimate alchemical treasure, the Philosopher’s Stone, their enemies are even more ruthless than they are…
The title spawned two anime projects, Fullmetal Alchemist and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, two anime films, and a 2017 live action movie. Aniplex of America currently holds the rights to both anime titles.
