The prince is back on the court for another animated epic.
Earlier today, anime and manga fans gathered at Chiba’s Makuhari Messe Convention Center for Jump Festa ’19. During a Prince of Tennis stage show, it was announced that the series will get a new anime movie in Spring 2020.
The, titled Ryōma! The Prince of Tennis the Rebirth Movie (Ryōma! Shinsei Gekijōban Tennis no Ōji-sama), will be set in the three-month span between the events of The Prince of Tennis‘ finale and the beginning of The New Prince of Tennis.
Takeshi Konomi’s The Prince of Tennis manga launched in the pages of Weekly Shonen Jump in July 1999. The title ran through March 3, 2008, spanning 42 volumes. Sequel series New Prince of Tennis kicked off in Jump Square in March 2009. The ongoing title currently spans 24 volumes, with the latest hitting retailers on September 4.
Both The Prince of Tennis and its sequel received anime adaptations, which aired in 2001 and 2012, respectively.
Viz Media currently holds the rights to The Prince of Tennis manga, which they describe as:
