Amelia, Dee, and Peter look back on the Winter 2018 season! Highlights include: Ice and camp girl gushing, fantasy war lamentations, and a, er… mixed reception for some high-profile sequels and carryovers.
We’ve decided to try a new, informal “check-in” roundtable to talk about the currently airing shows and our thoughts three episodes into the season.
Over the past few years, josei manga has had a renaissance in the West as readers rediscover older titles and publishers release new ones. It’s a glorious turn of events for josei fans like myself and others, but it also begs a few questions. Namely, why is this happening now and not sooner?
There will be no surprises in this anime; the focus is on the journey, not the result. And I have to say, I’m on board.
Taming the Final Boss is an extremely endearing premiere, with a great heroine and solid table-setting for its central romance. It’s also almost certain to get lost in the wave of Fall titles, for reasons that are not its fault.
