Earlier today, game developer Niantic took to Twitter to stream a new trailer for the Ingress anime TV series. The 165-second promo previews the show’s English dub, and hypes the title’s launch on Netflix, which occurred today.
Ingress originally aired in Fall 2018 as the launch title for Fuji TV’s +Ultra programming block.
Yūhei Sakuragi (The Relative Worlds) was tapped to direct the project at Craftar, with Takeshi Honda (Millennium Actress, Den-noh Coil) providing the original (pre-animation) character designs. The team of Sōki Tsukishima and Tora Tsukishima were in charge of series composition.
Ingress is a location-based, augmented-reality mobile game from Niantic, which launched on the Android mobile operating system in November 2012. The game later reached Apple’s iOS in July 2014. The game boasts more than eight million downloads, and seven million players.
An update for the game, titled Ingress Prime was unveiled in December 2017. The update is due to hit later this year, though a specific date hasn’t been specified.
The title itself boasts a sci-fi backstory, which is used to motivate players to travel to various real-world spots to claim “portals.” Niantic describes the plot as:
This world around you is not what it seems. Our future is at stake, and you must choose a side.
A mysterious energy has been unearthed by a team of scientists in Europe. The origin and purpose of this force is unknown, but some researchers believe it is influencing the way we think. We must control it or it will control us.“The Enlightened” seek to embrace the power that this energy may bestow upon us.
“The Resistance” struggle to defend, and protect what’s left of our humanity.
Install Ingress and transform your world.
Which side are you on?
