It’s been a few months since we last heard anything regarding the upcoming City Hunter movie but that changes today!
In a new promotional video posted to YouTube earlier today, fans got their first look at the movie which is set to premiere on February 8th, 2019. The movie, as previously reported, the primary cast, Akira Kamiya and Kazue Ikura, will be returning to reprise their roles of Ryo Saeba and Kaori Makimura respectively.
In addition, we also know that Kenji Kodama will be returning to the anime franchise to direct the feature at studio Sunrise with Yoichi Kato writing the script. Newly revealed crew members include chief directors Teruo Satoh and Takahiko Kyogoku. The background music will be crafted by master composer Taku Iwasaki.
Once again I’m forced to admit that while I might not always love the aesthetic of older anime, this trailer makes this movie look incredible and I’m excited to check out more footage as it is released over the next few months.
Originally released as a manga in 1985, City Hunter made it to the small screen with its first TV anime adaptation in 1987 which was followed by three additional seasons of anime and a handful of movies and specials, the last of which was released in 1999.
The story is described as:
Ryo Saeba works the streets of Tokyo as the City Hunter. He’s a “sweeper” and with his sidekick Kaori Makimura, he keeps the city clean. People hire the City Hunter to solve their dangerous problems, which he does with a Colt Python. When Ryo’s not working on a case, he’s working on getting the ladies, and Kaori must keep him in check with her trusty 10 kg hammer.
