It’s almost time for this elite squad to move out!

The 77-second promo offers a brief look at the gritty world of the magical girls, as they engage in brutal combat. The action is set to a driving electric guitar riff.

Magical Girl Spec-Ops Asuka hits Japanese TV in January 2019.

Magical Girl Spec-Ops Asuka Key VisualHideyo Yamamoto (The Prince of Tennis II, Strike The Blood) will direct the project at Liden Films, with Yoko Suzuki (Puzzle & Dragons X) providing character designs. The team of Makoto Fukami (Berserk 2016, Yuruyuri San Hai!) and Norimitsu Kaihō (School-Live!, Gunslinger Stratos: The Animation) is in charge of series composition.

R.O.N. is scoring the show’s soundtrack.

The series will star the following:

  • Asuka Ōtorii: Aya Suzaki

Makoto Fukami and illustrator Seigo Tokiya’s Magical Girl Spec-Ops Asuka manga launched in Square Enix’s Big Gangan magazine in June 2015. The series currently spans seven volumes, with volume 8 shipping to stores on July 25.

Seven Seas currently holds the rights to the title in North America. They describe it as:

When the Earth is threatened by the sudden appearance of undead creatures, a group of young women blessed with powers from a mysterious source rose to defeat them. Now, after three years of apparent peace, the same malevolent creatures have resurfaced. Five magical girls are once again conscripted to war as the Magical Girl Special Ops force, to defend mankind from an unholy nemesis.
