Note: Kyoto Animation asked that media outlets not publish the identities of those who passed in the fire. We have respected their wishes, and will continue to do so. Out of respect to Kyoto Animation and the families of those affected, we refuse to post the identities of those who have not been formally identified by the authorities, as well as a major media outlet.
Earlier today, the Kyoto Prefectural Police unveiled the identities of ten victims who passed away in the blaze that destroyed Kyoto Animation’s No.1 studio. According to the authorities, they were given consent to release the names of victims by their families, and that funeral services for all ten have concluded.
The Kyoto Police noted that they are refraining from revealing the remaining twenty-five names due to requests from the victims’ families, turnaround times for DNA identification, and other circumstances.

- Jun’ichi Uda
- Keisuke Yokota
- Mikiko Watanabe
- Sachie Tsuda
- Yasuhiro Takemoto
- Yūki Ōmura

Ami Kuriki
Ami Kuriki was 30 years old. She worked as a key animator for fourteen titles, including Violet Evergarden, Sound! Euphonium 2, Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid, and Liz and the Blue Bird.
Futoshi Nishiya
Futoshi Nishiya was 37. He worked as a character designer, key animator, and animation director on forty-seven titles, including:

- K-On! franchise (Animation Director, Key Animation)
- Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions! franchise (Animation Director)

Keisuke Yokota
Keisuke Yokota was 34 year sold. He worked as a production manager for twenty-six titles, including Beyond the Boundary, Clannad, the Free! franchise, K-On!, Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions!, and Sound! Euphonium.
Mikiko Watanabe
Mikiko Watanabe was 35. She worked as an art director and background artist for thirty-one titles, including:

Yoshiji Kigami was 61. Through his career, Kigami worked on all levels of the industry, under his own name and under pseudonyms Fumio Tada and Ichirou Miyoshi. He worked on ninety titles over the course of his career, including:

On July 17, fire broke out at Kyoto Animation’s No. 1 studio. Thirty-four passed away in the blaze, and more than thirty were injured.
Police determined the cause of the fire to be arson, and have arrested a suspect in the action. According to NHK, the police apprehended a male who was seen spraying an accelerant “like gasoline” both in and around the studio. The man’s license indicates that he is in his 40s.
According to NHK, the suspect was saying “Go die” as he ignited the fuel.
Kyoto Animation was established in 1981 by former Mushi Pro staff members. Since its founding, the studio has produced numerous prominent anime titles, including The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Clannad, K-On!, Free!, Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid, and Sound! Euphonium.
