Earlier today, Funimation opened a site to announce that they are producing a limited edition Dragon Ball Z Blu-Ray set to celebrate the title’s thirtieth anniversary. The company will host a reservation campaign, which seeks to bring in 2,500 pre-orders. If the threshold is not met, the set will not be produced.
If the set is produced, it will include:
- The entire series, with new bonus content
- A hardcover artbook
- A collectible figure, unique to the set
Specific details on the campaign will be announced at a later date. Acccording to the teaser site, 2,500 units is the minimum production run size from their printers.
In May 2018, the company hosted a similar campaign to produce a limited edition Cowboy Bebop boxed set.
Dragon Ball Z is a sequel to long-running TV series Dragon Ball, which hit Japanese TV on April 19, 1989. The series spans 291 TV episodes and twenty-five movies, with the latest being 2015’s Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection ‘F’. A two-season compilation series, titled Dragon Ball Z Kai began airing in 2009, and saw its second season hit the airwaves in 2014.
Daisuke Nishio and Shigeyasu Yamauchi directed Dragon Ball Z at Toei Animation, with Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru and Minoru Maeda providing character designs. Takao Koyama was in charge of series composition for the project.
