Earlier today, entertainment company Cinedigm announced that they will purchase Viewster and its subsidiary Viewster Anime. Through the agreement, Cinedigm will assume all of Viewster’s content, applications, and social assets, while adding the platform’s content to their global library. They publisher will continue to operate Viewster as a standalone brand, though ad sales will be handled via Cinedigm’s partner network.
Cinedigm expects to complete the purchase in January 2019.
Cinedigm is a Los Angeles based entertainment company which specializes in digital cinema, software, content marketing, and distribution. The publisher currently hosts a library of more than 50,000 films and TV episodes, and maintains direct relationships with more than 60,000 retailers worldwide as well as cable platforms and digital storefronts like Netflix and Amazon.
The company was founded in 2000 under the name Access IT Digital Media, Inc. The organization changed its name to Cinedigm in 2013.
Viewster was founded in Zurich, Switzerland in 2007 by Kai Henniges and Jörg Boksberger under the name “Diva.” They changed their name to Viewster in 2011. The organization currently maintains offices in Zurich, London, New York City, Berlin, Adelaide.
